Strehler Theatre
Milano - Marco Zanuso
Comune di Milano
January 1996
When Marco Zanuso suggested working with LucePlan on the lighting of the collective spaces at Nuovo Piccolo Teatro, for Riccardo Sarfatti – the company MD – it brought back the emotion of the experience of working with his father, Gino, who, with his Arteluce worked alongside the young Zanuso to illuminate the first site of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano in via Rovello. The lighting, to which at that time also Giorgio Strehler contributed, had to be festive, but discreet, imposing without being in the way, it had to be special, precious, like the reflections and twinkles of a crystal. That was how Piccolo Teatro was born – a floor lamp, both joyful to behold while remaining discreet, which holds a star made from Swarowsky crystal up from its stem. From wherever it is seen, it is never blinding physically, but perhaps it is a little, emotionally. Covering the foyer, the stairs and the service areas of the theatre at a glance, one appreciates the perfect synthesis of technology and poetry.
