MACRO

Project overview

Luceplan gives prominence to research carried out by ODBC (Odile Decq - Benoît Cornette) for the extensionworks of MACRO - Museum of Contemporary art in Rome - by developing two fixtures that have been speciallydesigned for new exhibition spaces. Javelot and Ma lampe represent the first partnership between the Milan leader company in the sector of design lighting and the French architect Odile Decq, famous for the headquarters of the Banque Populaire de L'Ouest e d'Armorique made in collaboration with Peter Rice. Javelot is a lamp designed to consistently give shape to the intentions that have led the designer to seek a dynamic balance of spaces and structures. Created in three versions – single suspension, multiple suspension and floor lamp with three light sources – it furnishes the museum’s restaurant halls, the roof-garden (with a floor version designed for outdoor use) and two didactic rooms. Javelot comprises a single aluminium body with two conical, satin-finished methacrylate tips, whose two LEDs shed light with colour temperature equal to 3,000°K and 7W consumption each. The highly scenic effect is achieved by a series of ‘javelins’ of light that cross space at random in an unplanned manner. This is possible thanks to the asymmetrical joint of the frame and to branches that differ in length and enable light source position to be adjusted as required. Either suspended from the restaurant ceiling or installed as a floor lamp on the terrace, Javelot completes the general lighting of the museum. Ma lampe has, instead, been specifically created to shed light on a series of armchairs and tables designed by Poltrona Frau. The fixture - a small methacrylate rod lit by a 1W LED - is horizontally inserted into the back of seats in the room hall or into tables at the restaurant, Art Cafè, Art Video and ticket office. The lamp is powered by a rechargeable device and therefore is free of cables. The rod lights up automatically when it is vertically rotated from the horizontal rest position. Lampe is a minimal spot of light that dots spaces in a discrete and functional manner.
